‘Doctor Who’ has made Whovians fear stone statues (aka Weeping Angels), shadows (aka Vashta Nerada), scarecrows (minions of the Family of Blood), and even cracks in walls and this year, they can add snowmen to that list!

Following the same format as the previous 5 episodes for the Season 7 series, BBC has released a movie poster for the Christmas episode titled ‘The Snowmen.’ While the poster (which you can see below) only features the Doctor and his new companion, Clara (Jenna Louise Coleman), a brief glimpse of the dreaded snow creatures was seen in the trailer that aired during the ‘Children of Need’ telethon. But if you need more proof that the Doctor isn’t dealing with Frosty and his corn cob pipe, we’ve included a better glimpse of the terrifying snow minions above.

While in the past, the 11th Doctor’s attitude of Christmas has been more upbeat, this year, says show runner Steven Moffat, the Doctor will be different. “He’s lost Amy and Rory to the Weeping Angels, and he’s not in a good place: in fact, he’s Scrooge.  He’s withdrawn from the world and no longer cares what happens to it.  So when all of humanity hangs in the balance, can anyone persuade a tired and heartbroken Doctor that it’s time to return to the good fight.  Enter Jenna-Louise Coleman…”

Christmas will also bring the return of Madame Vastra, Jenny and Strax as well as introduce Richard Grant as this year’s Christmas villain, Doctor Simeon.

So after opening the presents and filling themselves with a hearty Christmas dinner (which may or may not include jelly babies and fish fingers and custard), Whovians will soon settle down to enjoy the holiday tradition of travelling with the mad man with a blue box… and think twice the next time they pass a snowman.

The ‘Doctor Who’ Christmas episode will air Christmas Day, Tuesday, December 25th at 9PM ET/PT on BBC America.
