In a little over 5 weeks, Whovians will settle down to what has become a new Christmas tradition: the viewing of a new ‘Doctor Who’ special Christmas episode! Earlier we posted the prequel to that episode that aired during the BBC ‘Children in Need’ telethon, and now we have the official trailer for you to see!

While it has been a month and a half since we’ve last seen the Doctor say goodbye to Amy and Rory, we get the feeling from the prequel that he’s not taking the loss too well. With the help of Madame Vastra, Jenny and Strax, we see in this trailer that he’ll meet his new companion, Clara (played by Jenna Louise Coleman), who, surprisingly, is not from our contemporary times! It’ll be interesting to see how a Victorian companion will play out in the upcoming episodes.

The trailer is introduced by Matt Smith and Jenna Louise Coleman who do bring up the fact that this is the second episode that we’ve seen her in (if you recall, she played Oswin in the episode ‘Asylum of the Daleks’). Is she Owsin before becoming Oswin? Is she a distant relation to the character? Or is Clara someone new all together? Steven Moffat must have written this little segment as neither Smith nor Coleman really clarifiy the issue. Although they say she is a different character, they do so with a smirk. What say you, fellow Whovians?

Moffat, who also wrote this episode, has a wonderful way of making you think twice about ordinary things. Is that just a crack in the wall or is it a crack in time? Are stone statues of angels something to fear as Whovians now dare not blink while walking through a cemetery. And now… add snowmen to the list!

Watch the trailer for the upcoming ‘Doctor Who’ Christmas episode below and you’ll see what I mean.

So how excited are you for the new companion and a new ‘Doctor Who’ episode this Christmas?
