Right now, one of the most awesome events of the year, Star Wars Celebration VI, is going on in Orlando, Florida. Fresh from their panel today at the con, ‘Robot Chicken’ creators Seth Green and Matt Senreich, with collaborator Todd Grimes, premiered the first trailer for their new show ‘Star Wars: Detours’, a comedic take on the entire ‘Star Wars’ universe. And they even got George Lucas’ blessing!
According to E! Online, Green told the attendees at their panel this:
“Lucas was sitting at a desk and said, ‘You guys think you’re pretty fucking funny, don’t you? So, how about we do something funny together?'”
And thus ‘Star Wars: Detours’ was born! Well, it probably happened after Green and Senreich gave ‘Star Wars’ the ‘Robot Chicken’ treatment, like they’re doing soon with DC Comics, but you get the point.
Taking place between Episodes III and IV, the show reimagines all your favorite ‘Star Wars’ characters with the signature comedic styling of ‘Robot Chicken’ and a super cute animated style. Check out the first trailer below:
There’s no release date or word on what network ‘Star Wars: Detours’ will be on, but /Film has this official description and three more clips:
‘Star Wars Detours’ is an animated comedy that explores what daily life is like in a galaxy far, far away. There are no Empires striking back or attacking clones here. Instead, Star Wars Detours focuses on the universe’s regular folks and their everyday problems… which, to be fair, do frequently involve famous bounty hunters, crazed Ewoks, and even a Dark Lord of the Sith.
Yeah, this show is probably for kids, but I’m pretty excited about it because it looks hilarious to me. Especially that Admiral Ackbar bit. What do you guys think? Is this the equivalent of this generation’s ‘Star Wars Christmas Special’? Sound off in the comments!
