Despite constant setbacks like rewrites and losing cast members, FX executives are still high on their adaptation of ‘Powers’, a comic about cops who investigate superhuman crimes by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming.

Last year, a pilot was shot with a cast that featured Jason Patric and Lucy Punch in the leads alongside Charles S. Dutton, Titus Welliver, and Carly Foulkes. However, FX head John Landgraf rejected the pilot and commissioned Charles “Chick” Eglee to do a rewrite. Since then, Lucy Punch landed a new show at Fox and was released from ‘Powers’, shortly followed by Khary Payton, who played the part of Cutter in the pilot, and the rest of the cast. After the reestablishing of the tabula rasa, we heard nothing new from the ‘Powers’ crew besides the fact that they were down but not out.

Now, Variety (via Bleeding Cool) is reporting that the network plans on recasting and reshooting an entirely new pilot from scratch; however, there’s no timetable in place for production or an estimated date when we’d see the show on our screens.

Well, what I’m getting out of this is that some day eventually FX hopes to get ‘Powers’ made. Basically, they’re in the same position they were in six months ago. It’s almost as if they were just reminding us that this is a thing. I’m curious as to what was so bad about the original pilot. Maybe they should release it and get some feedback and then go from there.

Until ‘Powers’ works itself out, at least Bendis has all that stuff going on with Marvel in the comics and television departments to keep him busy.
