It’s official! Jena Malone has been offered the role of Johanna Mason in the hotly anticipated sequel to ‘The Hunger Games,’ ‘Catching Fire.’ While previous reports had Zoe Aggeliki as the forerunner for the role, Lionsgate made a pre-holiday offer to Malone and THR is reporting that the actress is in “early negotiations.”

The role of Johanna Mason is a key one in that her role will also carry into the third movie. If you haven’t read Suzanne Collins’ second installment in the trilogy, (Spoiler Here) ‘Catching Fire’ has all the former Hunger Game victors come together for a special “Game” called the Quarter Quell. Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) get tossed back into the area where they go against other past winning tributes, Johanna being one of them.

Johanna is described as a fierce competitor who has a “wicked ability to murder” with an axe. She’s sarcastic, antagonistic and doesn’t mind getting naked.  Some of the best lines from the book come out of Johanna. She’s also very chummy with Finnick Odair who has yet to be cast.

Filming is to begin in September so we’ll soon know if she decides to sign on.

So, ‘Hunger Games’ fans, do you think Malone is the right choice of the role? Sound off below!

‘Catching Fire’ will be directed by Francis Lawrence and sees the return of Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Donald Sutherland and Willow Shields. The film is scheduled for a November 22, 2013 release.
