Mia Wasikowska vs. Zoe Aggeliki Who will play Johanna in 'Catching Fire?'

With the massive success gained from ‘The Hunger Games,’ many are wondering how Francis Lawrence will be handling the sequel to the vastly popular film. There are still some critical roles that need to be cast, mainly Finnick Odair and Johanna Mason. Now it looks like the film is one step closer to finding its Johanna as The Playlist is reporting that Mia Wasikowska and Zoe Aggeliki are up for the role.

Okay, so maybe I haven’t learned my lesson the last time I reported about casting rumors for ‘Catching Fire, but since I’m a glutton for punishment I’m reporting this one anyway. Before I go in to who and why the two actresses are being considered, it would be helpful to know a little about what the role of Johanna entails.

For those of you who haven’t read the book, Johanna is the fierce axe-wielding competitor who is forced to team with Katniss during the next Hunger Games. She’s sarcastic and antagonistic but forms an important relationship with Katniss. Johanna plays a very important role in not only in the second book, ‘Catching Fire,’ but also in the final installment of the trilogy, ‘Mockingjay,’

Right now, Lawrence (the director) is reportedly trying to decide whether the role should go to a big name actress or a relative unknown.  While Wasikowska is known for her work in the title role of Alice in Tim Burton’s ‘Alice in Wonderland’ and Jane Eyre in ‘Jane Eyre,’ and has appeared in ‘The Kids Are Alright’ with Mark Ruffalo and Josh Hutcherson and ‘Albert Nobbs’ with Glenn Close, model Aggeliki has yet to appear in any feature roles. She will, however, be seen in the upcoming Ryan Reynolds film ‘R.I.P.D.’ and in ‘Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters’ both of which will be released next year.

Apparently, Aggeliki is the front-runner. The Playlist has reported that both actresses have been in discussion for the part and it is just a matter of days before Aggeliki signs on, but as with all reports “from a source” nothing is final. Production is scheduled to start in the next few months so I’m sure we’ll hear who will officially play the role of Johanna soon (and Finnick for that matter.)

Who do you think the role should go to?
