FINALLY! We’re back to some interesting New Avengers action. That stuff with the Iron Fist who harnessed the power of the Phoenix Force is over with and now we’re back to the present with Danny Rand, Hope Summers, and Peter Parker. I know that exposition is important and necessary at times, but we did not need two whole issues dedicated to it. One maybe. One would be understandable, but two was just too much, as I said in my review of the last issue in this series.

I wish there was an indication of time though. This is the same problem that I encountered with ‘Avengers’ #27, however; in this case, I’m not really confused. I’m just curious. Mostly, I’m curious as to when Hope had the time to go to Asia with Iron Fist and Spider-Man when the Phoenix Force was barreling towards Earth, seemingly headed towards her.

The best part of the whole book and the redeemer of this story arc was none other than your friendly, neighborhood Spider-Man. The conversation between he and Hope totally had me. Though Peter is usually slinging webs and quips, Bendis had him be serious for a moment, and it worked really well for me. Just like Hope after the speech, I was down to follow him wherever after that because he was the one who made things interesting again.

Forget that J. Jonah Jameson cat. I’m Team Spidey all day!

Hopefully this trend of interesting stuff in this title keeps on going. We shall see what Brian Michael Bendis throws at us next.
