I’m a bit confused as to what’s going on with this particular Avengers title. When it started to address the Protector’s situation, things weren’t uniform with the title from which it started, ‘Secret Avengers’. That’s not to say that this is a bad story. As a stand-alone story, it would be fine. But, since it’s apart of an event where the things going on have been chronicled elsewhere, it’s hard to look at it as a stand-alone story. I like it, but it’s just not the story going on right now. Or maybe the other one isn’t the one going on right now. Either way, I wish that these tie-ins had a better sense of continuity.

As much as I like Brian Michael Bendis and what he does with the Avengers, I wish his storyline went along with what Rick Remender is doing in ‘Secret Avengers’. For those of you not reading that title, all the Avengers with connections to the Kree (Ms. Marvel, The Protector, and Captain Marvel) are involved. The thing in common between both stories is The Protector. However, his motivation in ‘Secret Avengers’ makes the story much more appealing. The only thing that Bendis’ story has that Remender’s doesn’t is the cuteness with Noh-Varr and his girlfriend from Earth.

It seems like this title has gone consistently down since ‘Avengers Vs. X-Men’ started. While I am and will always enjoy Bendis’ work, this isn’t exactly my favorite thing that he’s done up to this point.

Verdict: Borrow
