Look out San Diego! Your days of being the premier convention may be numbered as Stan Lee has partnered with Comikaze Entertainment Inc. to launch his own comic-con located in Los Angeles.
Comikaze was created by Regina Carpinelli and debuted last November at the Los Angeles Convention Center. With around 40,000 attendees and over 300 exhibitors, Comikaze made a big impression with the comic convention industry, guests, and the attendees. It even earned the label as “Best New Convention” in LA Weekly.
Also impressed was Lee himself who was a guest at the inaugural event. After seeing the effect Comikaze had, Lee decided to partner with Carpinelli. “The inauguration of Comikaze Expo demonstrated the mighty appetite and eager response from fans to experience a Los Angeles-based event that provides a variety of comic book and pop culture entertainment,” said Lee, “We saw an opportunity to creatively take this event to new heights through our partnership and we seized it!” In an interview with CNN, he also expressed, “The idea that Los Angeles, which is to me the seat of the world’s entertainment, did not have its own con, and the fact that (Carpinelli) got more than 40,000 people on (her) first one, just shows what a market there is,” Lee said.
Comikaze is now being rebranded as ‘Stan Lee’s Comikaze presented by POW!’ and promises this year’s attendees a larger experience with an amazing line-up of vendor attractions, interactive contests, celebrity autograph signings, the addition of movie screenings, incredible panel sessions, and all new gaming tournaments.
Carpinelli added, “Stan is one of the greatest entertainment icons of our generation and the godfather of modern comics. We expect him to be instrumental in developing the Los Angeles Comikaze Convention. We have partnered with one of pop cultures most celebrated figures and we plan to wow not only LA but also the world. Audiences can anticipate a highly interactive experience at Stan Lee’s Comikaze Expo, unlike any other show. We want to change the way conventions are created and make an ultimate fan experience year round. Besides, it’s about damn time Stan had his own convention!”
The lineup of guests and celebrities will be forthcoming in the next few weeks but Carpinelli did reveal that Lee would be “bringing some of his pals.” According to Lee, “We’re going to have the cream of the crop of people in movies, television and the comic book world.”
Lee is hoping to develop a convention that is more family friendly with a low-key tone. Tickets would be available for a low price and even children can walk through the doors for free. He hopes this concept will spread in similar conventions around the world.
This year’s Stan Lee’s Comikaze will take place on September 15 -16 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Tickets are VERY reasonable right now during their presale period. A one day ticket is only $12 while a full weekend pass is $20. Kids under 12 are FREE! And you can order 3 free kids passes for each 1 paying adult.
If you didn’t get a chance to buy San Diego Comic Con ticket before they sold out, here’s your chance to get into what looks like to be the next big convention in the area. But don’t wait too long. With prices like these and with Stan Lee behind it all, I’m sure these tickets won’t be available for too long.
