Syfy’s new MMO connected series ‘Defiance’ just added an Academy Award winner to their cast and it’s someone many ‘Twilight’ fans may recognize. THR is reporting that Graham Greene has just been added to the post-apocalyptic project.

Greene had a supporting role in ‘The Twilight Saga: New Moon’ movie as Harry Clearwater and won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his work as Kicking Bird in the Kevin Costner film ‘Dancing With Wolves.’ He’s also appeared in ‘The Green Mile,’ and has guest starred on the television shows ‘Being Erica,’ ‘Numb3rs,’ ‘Poltergeist: Legacy,’ and ‘PSI Factor: Chronicles of the Paranormal.’

In ‘Defiance,’ Greene will play Rafe McCawley, a “self-made success who owns and operates the largest mine in the territory. His status as the richest and most powerful human in Defiance comes with a price, however, as he struggles to navigate both familial and political alliances in the new world.”  He will be joining Grant Bowler, Julie Benz, Stephanie Leonidas, Tony Curran and Jaime Murray who were cast earlier.

If you recall, ‘Defiance’ is the television series that will be uniting with the MMO game of the same name from Trion. What will be seen on the series will effect what will happen in the game and vice versa. Players of the MMO game can be part of the series as references of their achievements will be mentioned in the series.

Filming is slated to begin next month in Toronto. The pilot will be directed by Scott Stewart (‘Legion’, ‘Priest’) and was written by Rockne O’Bannon (‘V’, ‘Farscape’, ‘Alien Nation’), Kevin Murphy (‘Caprica’, ‘Reaper’) and Michael Taylor (‘Battlestar Galactica’, ‘Caprica’, ‘Star Trek: Deep Space Nine’, ‘Star Trek: Voyager’). All three writers will also executive produce with Murphy serving as showrunner.
