DC Comics’ latest super star takes the spotlight on the Cartoon Network tonight at 7 P.m. (Eastern) as ‘Green Lantern: The Animated Series’ launches in a one-hour special presentation!  Following the big budget summer blockbuster starring Ryan Reynolds, ‘Green Lantern’ follows the exploits of Hal Jordan, the first Earthling to accept the mantle of one of the universe’s elite defenders.  This series seems to pick up where the movie left off, with Hal still as the “greenest” Lantern on the force.  In this series, the Green Lantern Corps will find themselves facing off against the Red Lanterns.  Whereas the heroic Green Lanterns utilize the power of will to battle evil, the Red Lanterns invoke the power of rage!

Here’s a look at the opening sequence… looks DARK!  Since when can they use the word “kill” in a cartoon?

The computer animation might take some getting used to, although I must say, it does invoke ‘The Incredibles’ and no comic fan is going to find fault with that!  The Red Lanterns are nasty customers, so they should prove a formidable threat.

All in all, I’m intrigued and will certainly be tuning in for this!  The visual style is pretty unique among Cartoon Network’s Friday night line up.  Green Lantern is a compelling character, although the movie fell short.  I’m looking forward to star-spanning, high adventure!  Remember tonight (and every Friday) at 7 p.m. on the Cartoon Network!  (I mean, you were already going to tune in for ‘Thundercats,’ ‘Clone Wars,’ ‘Young Justice’ and ‘The Brave and the Bold’ anyway, right?)
