Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has been attached to star as ‘Black Adam’ since 2014 and now 5 years later, we finally have a release date for the movie! While it is exciting to see that production of the film is finally moving forward, you shouldn’t hold your breath on seeing it any time soon. The release date isn’t slated until December 22nd of 2021! We’re still over two years away from being able to check out what the future has in store for DC Films when it comes to Johnson’s character.
While we still don’t know much about what to expect in the film, Johnson has previously stated that Black Adam will start off as a villain much as he was in the comics prior to becoming the antihero he is known as today.
Due to the complicated relationship between Black Adam and Shazam, there initially were rumors that the character would debut in the 2019 Zachary Levi film. Those were later shut down as not to take away from Shazam’s origin story and give Black Adam the introduction he so richly deserves. Levi later revealed that he believed the plan was for the two to meet in either the third ‘Shazam!’ or second ‘Black Adam’ movie, which I could see being developed as a 2-part story.
