Dwayne Johnson Confirms 'Jungle Cruise' Director Jaume Collet-Serra Is Tackling 'Black Adam'

Word just surfaced that Warner Brothers was eyeing Jaume Collet-Serra to direct the DC Comics-based flick ‘Black Adam’ starring Dwayne Johnson.  Now Johnson has taken to Instagram to confirm that Collet-Serra is officially onboard.

As Johnson mentioned in his post, he and Collet-Serra have been working together for two years on ‘Jungle Cruise’.  ‘Black Adam’ has been simmering at WB for about as long, as it was determined in 2017 that the “anti-hero in black” would get his own movie rather than being introduced in ‘Shazam!’.  It was recently reported by representatives from Johnson’s Seven Bucks Productions that ‘Black Adam’ would likely begin filming next year.

In a previous interview, Johnson stated:

“I love the idea that is backstory is that he starts off as a slave.  I feel like when somebody is oppressed that way but has a bigger ambition and a greater belief than the oppression that’s holding him down – that’s a powerful place to be. [His] family getting killed, coming back from that; There’s a lot of elements about Black Adam that have attracted me for a very, very, very, very, very long time.”

Collet-Serra is finishing up ‘Jungle Cruise’, which is due in theaters on July 24, 2020.

Johnson will next be seen in ‘Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw’ on August 2, 2019.  He is set to co-star with another DC star, Gal Gadot in the art heist flick ‘Red Notice’, which has a release date set of November 13, 2020, while ‘Black Adam’ does not yet have a release date, so he will most likely film ‘Red Notice’ first, allowing Collet-Serra to complete post-production on ‘Jungle Cruise’, before they reunite to tackle ‘Black Adam’.

Are you excited that it FINALLY looks as though ‘Black Adam’ starring Dwayne Johnson is getting underway?
