Though filming is well under way, we don’t know very much about the upcoming Marvel/Netflix series ‘Iron Fist’. True Believers were treated to a brief teaser at this year’s San Diego Comic Con and we’ve seen a few official casting announcements, but we’re far from knowing the whole story yet. Although, star Finn Jones may have recently teased another character that could be making an appearance on the show.

So far, we know that Jones will be playing Danny Rand A.K.A. the Immortal Iron Fist. He will be joined by Jessica Henwick as Colleen Wing, David Denham as Harold Meachum, Jessica Stroup as Joy Meachum, and Tom Pelphrey as Ward Meachum. Carrie-Anne Moss is also set to reprise her role as Jeri Hogarth from ‘Daredevil’ and ‘Jessica Jones’. These characters largely make up Danny’s life in New York City, but we have yet to hear any casting related to K’un-L’un, the mystical city that plays a big part in his origin story. However, a recent post on the actor’s Instagram may indicate that one of Rand’s teachers from the ancient city named Lei-Kung The Thunderer will play a part in the hero’s introduction to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actual post has been deleted, but we have a screenshot which you can check out below:

In the comics, young Danny Rand becomes the apprentice of Lei-Kung when he arrives in K’un-L’un. The Thunderer teaches Rand a variety of martial arts, while showing him how to harness the power of the Iron Fist. Lei-Kung is also the father of Davos A.K.A. the Steel Serpent, an exiled native of K’un-L’un that became Rand’s rival after stealing the Iron Fist’s power. Steel Serpent may also sound familiar to MCU fans because it is also the name of the heroin sold by Wilson Fisk’s ally Madam Gao in ‘Daredevil’. The packaging also sports the same logo used by Davos in the comics, so it’s probably a safe bet that he will be making an appearance on ‘Iron Fist’ potentially alongside his father.

Though this is far from an official confirmation, it would only make sense to include Lei-Kung on the show. Now all we need is a casting announcement to reveal who will be playing the part. As we patiently wait for that, let us know who you think should play the Thunderer in the comments.
