We all have our celebrity crushes, right?  But can you imagine what you’d do if you ever met them?  Can you imagine having them become a part of your everyday life?  If you’re not a ten year-old, the answer to that last one is probably “no.”  But maybe that’s because you aren’t industrious enough.

Ricky Ma, a 42 year-old designer from Hong Kong has had a lifetime fascination with robots and despite naysayers, channeled his interest into a mostly 3D-printed automaton he calls Mark-1.

This is her:

Nope your eyes do not deceive you.  Ma spent over $50,000 and a year and a half to build a robot version of Scarlett Johansson.  Well, Ma won’t admit which Hollywood star he based his design on, but… well you can see.

Yes, science has officially gone too far.  What is particularly interesting (and even more frightening) is that Ma is a graphic designer not a professional robotics scientist/engineer.  He had to learn programming and other skills in order to construct Scarlett Mark-1.  Basically, the way a sane person may build model trains or LEGOs, he channeled his energy and free time into making a FREAKIN’ SCARLETT JOHANSSON ROBOT!!!  AS A HOBBY!!!

If you aren’t freaked out enough just looking at it, here is a short video showing her in action.  In it, Ma describes he process of constructing this monstrosity:

I probably should admit this, but I have a cardboard cutout of Josh Hutcherson as Peeta Mellark and THAT used to freak me out so much, I ended up attaching it to the inside of my closet door because I’d get startled whenever I happened to glance over and see a life size figure standing in the corner.  And that was just a cardboard cutout!

Can you imagine a jerkily moving, dead-eyed, robot-voiced duplicate of your favorite actor chillin’ in your crib?!  No thanks!

Is this a marvel (no pun intended) of technology?  Or a nightmare brought to life?  Would YOU like a robot of your favorite star?  (If you have $50,000, it looks like you can have one.)

Yes, Jason has a Peeta cardboard cutout.  Don’t judge.  You can follow him on Twitter.
