Ben Affleck is a respected actor, director and an Academy Award-winning screenwriter.  In the last few years, he has chosen to focus on directing and starring in his own movies, but then he got the offer to play Batman in ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice’ and well… who says no to Batman?  Maybe director Zack Snyder?

An unnamed source revealed:

“Ben was excited to do a Batman film.  He’s fascinated by the character!”

Affleck is well-known to be a comic book fan, so much so that he jumped at playing one in 2003’s ‘Daredevil’, a commercial and critical flop.  Apparently, Affleck wasn’t going to make the same mistake twice.  As excited as he was to be playing Batman, he reportedly took steps to ensure a final product that was lightyears better than his previous superhero attempt.

Another unnamed source reported:

“[Affleck] would go into wardrobe and get all suited up for the day in his Batman suit.  Then he would sit around reworking the script. Ben wasn’t thrilled with it and would find himself on multiple occasions fixing it the day of.”

Scripts get rewritten during the process of shooting all the time on nearly every movie, so this isn’t unheard of.  And depending on the director, actors are often asked to improvise or contribute ideas to strengthen the final product.  The director has final say, after all.

What could be worrisome is the assertion concerning the original script by David S. Goyer and Chris Terrio, that “Ben wasn’t thrilled with it.”  What’s interesting is that Terrio penned the script for Affleck’s ‘Argo’ the 2013 Academy Award winner for Best Motion Picture of the Year, with Terrio winning for Best Writing, Adapted Screenplay.  The Terrio-Affleck team had already delivered what was deemed the best movie of that year.  It’s hard to imagine what could have gone wrong here.  (Well, except maybe studio meddling.)

Keep in mind that this is an anonymous source delivering this info and we have no idea what their motivations were.  Maybe they just thought it was a funny anecdote– the visual of Affleck suited up in his Batman armor, typing away on his laptop.  But some of the word choices, mainly the assertion that Affleck was “fixing” the script seem to hint at something that could cause fans to pause.

Especially since this film is directed by Zack Snyder, who directed the controversial ‘Man of Steel’.  ‘Batman V Superman’ kicks off a full spate of DC Comics-based movies for parent company Warner Brothers.  There is a LOT riding on this, to say the least.

What did Affleck need to “fix?”

Then again, maybe whatever weaknesses there were, were fixed.

But then again, take this with a grain of salt.  Affleck has not been given a writing credit on the film, so maybe he just tweaked some dialogue or made minor adjustments.  If he’d had major reservations, he might have insisted on a rewrite before filming began.

‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ directed by Zack Snyder and starring Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Jesse Eisenberg, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburn, Diane Lane, Jeremy Irons, Michael Shannon and Holly Hunter and maaaaaaybe Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller, Ray Fisher declares war on box offices on March 25, 2016.

The movie is already tracking to open to over $100 million.  Will you be checking it out opening weekend?
