Ike Barinholtz

Ike Barinholtz is a familiar face to comedy fans, as a regular on ‘Mad TV’,  ‘The Mindy Project’ and ‘Eastbound And Down’.  So it might be a surprise that he is among the grim faces on David Ayer’s ‘Suicide Squad’, which is an adaptation of the DC Comics concept in which super villains are enlisted by the U.S. government to embark on black ops missions in exchange for commuted sentences or even freedom.  So which super villain is Barinholtz playing?  Is he even playing a villain?  Wait… who is he playing?

Barinholtz isn’t spilling, but since we’ve already seen the full lineup of the ‘Suicide Squad’, presumably he isn’t one of them.  He did comment on the overall vibe of filming with Ayer, who seemed to be goading his actors for off-kilter performances.

Barinholtz said:

“Going to ‘Suicide Squad’ was a very different experience.  I don’t want to say it was agro-male because Margot Robbie is tougher than any of the guys, but it was just a very raucous set. David Ayer is very dark. He chases that real darkness and says crazy things to you before a take to get your head spinning. He likes to psychologically get in there. He would tell us, ‘You know on Fury, right before a scene, I almost got Shia [LaBeouf] and [Jon] Bernthal into a fistfight.’ And [I’m] like, ‘I don’t want to do that!!’ But he gets great performances out of actors and [Suicide Squad] is so big in scope. When I think of some of those sets, it’s like, This is the size of Universal Studios. It was very, very, very different.”

We’ve already heard stories of how dark Jared Leto delved to play The Joker, but it sounds like he wasn’t the only one.  It sounds like Ayer pushed all of his actors to… er, different places.

This even included when Barinholtz masqueraded as an armed guard, when the first footage of ‘Suicide Squad’ premiered at SDCC.

But who is Barinholtz playing?  We still don’t know.

“I have David Ayer in my head being like, ‘I’m going to kill you if you say anything.  I can say it’s probably not who you think it is. I can say that he’s definitely someone that people will not like, and he is someone who likes to really mess with people — likes to really hurt people and f*** them up.”

Could this comedic actor be taking a turn for the dark and playing the badder than bad villain that these hardened criminals are sent to take down?

Perhaps more will be revealed when the next trailer is released, which is rumored to highlight the more comedic elements of the movie.

What do you think?  Who could Ike Barinholtz be playing in ‘Suicide Squad’?
