Coming as no surprise, Luke Evans (‘Dracula Untold‘,’The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies‘) has officially dropped out from portraying Eric Draven in the upcoming reboot of ‘The Crow.’ This has been a long time coming with the lengthy delay on production, the film changing directors, and a recent interview with Evans.

The most telling was the interview where the actor stated that “at the minute ‘The Crow’ is not, not for me, I think it’s a little… I mean I’m sure it’s going to go ahead at some point, but I have other projects that are green lit and ready to go and projects that I’m very interested in and you know, I can’t wait much longer!” Not surprising but still a tragic blow to the production.

From the beginning, Evans has been one of the strongest advocates of the film. His rising star has helped legitimize a film that had many questioning why it even needed to be made. Saying things like “we just want to be as authentic and loyal to the original comic as possible, and that means the story will be different. It’ll be different from what people are expecting. It’s not about us ripping off the Brandon Lee movie, that stands alone as a brilliant piece of cult film and a great performance, but we’re going back to the book, the original book,” Evans was not only an actor on the film but was also a very strong supporter in helping fans know what direction the film was headed in.

With Evans out of the movie a new actor has to be found to portray The Crow and Relativity is actively seeking a new star. The company has known this could be an issue since December when Evans initially showed concern about the movie. Chances are they’ve already put together a short list of who they’d like to see fill Evans’ shoes, though no word on who is on it at this time.

Who would you like to see Eric Draven in the new take on ‘The Crow’?
