The BBC had already stated when ‘Doctor Who’ Season 12 would launch, but the new trailer confirms that time when American audiences can catch the season premiere– 8 pm EST.
The new clip offers glimpses of returning menaces, the Judoon and the Cybermen, but The Doctor, Ryan (Tosin Cole), Yasmin (Mandip Gill), and Graham (Bradley Walsh), will also suit up in style for new adventures.
The January 1 episode is part one of a two-part story called “Spyfall,” with part two arriving on Sunday, January 5, presumably also at 8 pm. That will be ‘Doctor Who’s regular time slot going forward.
If you’re a ‘Doctor Who’ superfan, BBC and BBC America are teaming up with Fathom Events for a one-time-only screening of both parts of “Spyfall” on the big screen, followed by a LIVE Q&A with Whittaker, Cole, and Gill from the Paley Center for Media in New York. These showings will be held at 600 theaters in the US on January 5. (Tickets go on sale on Friday at FathomEvents.com.)
Check out the new trailer below:
“Spyfall” features guest appearances from Stephen Fry And Sir Lenny Henry CBE, while it has also been revealed that the upcoming season will feature appearances by Goran Višnjić And Robert Glenister. (Some of them can be spotted in the trailer.)
While Season 11 was comprised solely of stand-alone episodes, Season 12 will see the return of multi-part stories– starting with “Spyfall”– and the Christmas Special. (Last season featured a New Years Special instead.)
London’s Daily Mirror reports that the first new episode is “one of the most ambitious ever attempted,” and quoted a BBC source as saying:
“It’s going to be huge. The scale is just epic. No one will be disappointed.”
Season 11, the first with Chris Chiball as showrunner and Jodie Whittaker as the new (and first female) Doctor, wound up with the highest ratings for the series in ten years.
As The Doctor asks at the end of this clip, “Fancy a trip in the box?”
