The Legend Of Vox Machina
Critical Role

Following a Kickstarter campaign, Critical Role’s animated series ‘The Legend of Vox Machina’ has been picked up by Amazon.  The Kickstarter campaign was reportedly used to create 10 episodes, but Amazon has requested an additional 14, which will be broken up into two seasons of 12 episodes each.  Critical Role has an established relationship with Amazon, having used its Twitch service to broadcast its live-action Dungeons & Dragons role-playing show.

Critical Role broke Kickstarter records, when it amassed $5.79 million in four days, on its way to a total of $11.39M.  At the time, Sam Riegel, a CR cast member and executive producer of ‘The Legend of Vox Machina’ declared:

“We’re going to make this the best goddamn cartoon anyone has ever seen.”

As part of their deal, they will also develop future series for Amazon.  Backers that supported the campaign on Kickstarter will get first access to the series and will somehow get to access the series for free, without an Amazon Prime account. In a message to supporters, Critical Role wrote:

“We’re still working out all of the logistical details and should have an update around how all of this will work in late 2020.”

Amazon Studios head, Jennifer Salke said:

“Critical Role blazed a new trail for original digital content, with fresh new voices and humor that earned devoted fans around the world, as evidenced by their wildly successful Kickstarter campaign.  We’re thrilled to work with the whole team to bring ‘The Legend of Vox Machina,’ and new Critical Role series, to our Prime Video customers.”

In a joint statement, Riegel and Travis Willingham declared:

“We were absolutely floored by the level of enthusiasm we received on the Kickstarter campaign, and now we can deliver exactly what the fans wanted, and more.  Teaming with Prime Video to deliver the series to fans across the globe is exciting and surreal — and we’re psyched to be able to tell even more stories with not just one, but two 12-episode seasons!”

Animation will be provided by Titmouse, which has produced ‘Star Wars: Galaxy of Adventures’, the ‘Spider-Ham’ short that was included on the Blu-Ray for ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’, Netflix’s ‘Neo Yokio’ and ‘Big Mouth’, Adult Swim’s ‘Son of Zorn’, ‘Black Dynamite’, and more.

Titmouse’s Chris Prynoski said:

“I’ve been wanting to make an animated show based on fantasy role-playing games since I was 1st level. I’m overjoyed for Titmouse to join the Critical Role adventuring party to slay this beast alongside the mighty Amazon army!”

‘The Legend of Vox Machina’ will feature the Critical Role cast of Laura Bailey, Taliesin Jaffe, Ashley Johnson, Liam O’Brien, Matthew Mercer, Marisha Ray, Sam Riegel, and Travis Willingham.  The first season is expected in late 2020.
