Netflix has renewed sci-fi drama ‘Another Life’ starring Katee Sackhoff for a ten-episode second season. The first season also consisted of ten episodes and was released on July 25th of this year. Aaron Martin created the series, which also stars Justin Chatwin, Samuel Anderson, Blu Hunt, A.J. Rivera, Jake Abel, Alex Ozerov, Alexander Eling, JayR Tinaco, Lina Renna, Selma Blair, and Elizabeth Ludlow. ‘Another Life’ films in Vancouver and is expected to go back into production next year.
‘Another Life’ opens with the arrival on Earth of a Möbius strip-shaped flying object, which, when it lands, grows a crystal shell. Erik Wallace (Justin Chatwin) is a scientist employed by the United States Interstellar Command who is tasked with figuring out how to communicate with the alien monolith that has landed in the United States. However, this task proves difficult and so far unsuccessful. Wallace’s wife, Captain Niko Breckinridge (Katee Sackhoff), is tasked with taking the spaceship Salvare and its crew to find the origin of this sophisticated alien object.
Netflix doesn’t release streaming numbers, but if it’s ordering a second season, ‘Another Life’ must have performed okay. It received dismal reviews, however. (You can find our reviews for Season 1, by Darryl Jasper here.)
Martin previously created the series ‘Slasher’ for Canada’s Super Channel. It was released in the US by Chiller (Season 1) and Netflix (Seasons 2 and 3). Before that, he wrote for ‘Degrassi: The Next Generation’. Sackhoff is best known for playing Captain Kara ‘Starbuck’ Thrace on ‘Battlestar Galactica’, but she has since gone on to co-star on ’24’, ‘Longmire’, ‘The Flash’, provide the voice for Bo-Katan Kryze on ‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars’ (which will return on Disney+), and various voices for ‘Robot Chicken’. Chatwin portrayed Jimmy/Steve on ‘Shameless’, and also appeared on ‘Weeds’, ‘Orphan Black’, and ‘American Gothic’. Among their notable co-stars are Jake Abel who returns to ‘Supernatural’s final season as the lost Winchester brother, Adam Milligan, and appeared as Luke in the ‘Percy Jackson’ movies. Blu Hunt portrayed Danielle Moonstar/Mirage in the ‘New Mutants’ movie, which may never get released.
