Blu Hunt has joined the crew of the spaceship Salvare on the new Netflix sci-fi series ‘Another Life’. Hunt will play August, the lead engineer aboard the Salvare, a craft that is being used to track down the origin of a cosmic artifact. Hunt’s character August is the youngest member of the crew, which will include Tyler Hoechlin, Justin Chatwin, Samuel Anderson and Elizabeth Faith Ludlow, reporting to series leads Katee Sackhoff and Selma Blair.
‘Another Life’ was created by Aaron Martin, who previously created the Canadian series ‘Slasher’. Noreen Halpern (‘Alias Grace’) serves as executive producer.
Sackhoff’s character Niko Breckinridge is the commander of the Salvare. As they attempt to discern the nature of a mysterious artifact in their possession, they slowly start to realize they may be on a one-way voyage. Hoechlin’s character is named Ian Yerxa, who was formerly the commander of the Salvare, before losing the post to Breckinridge. Chatwin plays Niko’s husband, Erik Wallace, who is a member of the United States Interstellar Command. Ludlow plays Cas Isakovic, Niko’s second-in-command, while Anderson plays the ship’s holographic AI, William. As for Blair, her role may be the hardest to understand in terms of how it fits the series, but she plays Harper Glass, a tastemaker who uses “journalism, social media and keen intelligence” in an attempt to break a massive story.
Netflix ordered ten episodes for the first season of ‘Another Life’. It’s unknown at this time when it will be available, but Fall 2019 seems most likely.
Hunt will be seen in ‘New Mutants’, a horror-theme spin-off of Fox’s ‘X-Men’ franchise. She plays Danielle Moonstar, alias Mirage, a mutant with the ability to conjure others’ worst nightmares. Directed by Josh Boone, ‘New Mutants’ was envisioned as the first movie in a series, but with Disney’s acquisition of Fox, that future is unclear at this time. If the movie ends up being a huge hit, it’s more likely that Disney will make more. If not, it may be a one-and-done installment. ‘New Mutants’ opens on August 2, 2019.
