American Gods
Starz

Mr. Wednesday and Shadow Moon were separated at the end of ‘American Gods’ Season 2, but Starz has released a new photo of the pair, back together again in Season 3 which is now filming.  Shadow (played by Ricky Whittle) is rocking a completely new look with a full head of hair and a beard.  Does that have anything to do with the spiritual awakening he will undergo after the revelation that he is Wednesday’s son, making him a demigod?  Guess we’ll have to wait and see, but for now, this description offers an idea of the direction of the next installment:

“World is looking to control destiny with a mysterious new piece of technology that, if brought online, will have the power to dominate humanity’s attention. And in this modern age, attention is worship.”

The series has added two more cast members for the third season, Eric Johnson and Dominique Jackson.

Following the events of Season 2, Shadow will attempt to settle down to a normal life and exert his independence.  He settles in the small snowy town of Lakeside, Wisconsin.

Johnson has been cast to play Chad Mulligan, Lakeside’s Chief of Police who “spends his days mediating disputes between townsfolk he’s known his whole life. This trademark low-key diplomacy works well for Chad until a local teenage girl goes missing, igniting a panic of paranoia and blame that threatens to tear Chad’s beloved town apart.”

Meanwhile, Jackson’s role is somewhat unique.  She will portray Ms. World, a female incarnation of Crispin Glover’s Mr. World.  (Glover isn’t going anywhere, so the character will appear in both male and female forms.)

Previously, it was announced that Ashley Reyes had joined in the series regular role of Cordelia, a human computer whiz that will become a new companion for Mr. Wednesday (Ian McShane).

Marilyn Manson will portray Johan Wengren, a “blood-thirsty” lead singer of the Viking death metal band Blood Death, for a four-episode storyline.  Blythe Danner is set to appear as Demeter, the Greek goddess of the harvest, with a complicated romantic history with Mr. Wednesday.  In another godly role, Herizen F. Guardiola will portray Oshun, the Yoruban goddess of love, purity, and fertility, who plays an important part in Shadow’s spiritual awakening.

Some might recognize Johnson for playing Whitney Ford in the early seasons of ‘Smallville’.  After that, he headlined the one-season Syfy series ‘Flash Gordon’, and went on to co-star on ‘Rookie Blue’, ‘Saving Hope’, ‘The Knick’, ‘Junior’, ‘Orphan Black’, and ‘Caught’.  Most recently, he played Erik on ‘Vikings’, and he will star on the second season of ‘Condor’ on the Audience Channel.  On the big screen, he played Jack Hyde in the ‘Fifty Shades’ movies.

Jackson portrays Elektra Abundance on the FX series ‘Pose’.  Prior to that, she appeared on ‘Christopher Street: The Series’ and ‘Call Me’.

After some bumps behind the scenes, it appears that ‘American Gods’ is on track.  Season 3 is expected to arrive on Starz next year.
