Birds Of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation Of One Harley Quinn) poster
Warner Brothers

Todd Phillips ‘Joker’ is generating a lot of buzz, but that picture doesn’t take place in the established DC film universe.  The next proper DCU movie is ‘Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)’.  Warner Brothers released the first trailer which played before ‘It: Chapter Two’.  Now the studio has released the first poster for the movie.  Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn is the focus, with the slogan “Mind over mayhem” written on her neck.  She and the film’s other stars also appear as winged fairy-like beings.

Check out the poster for yourself below:

Mary Elizabeth Winstead stars as Helena Bertinelli/The Hunteress, with Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Dinah Lance/Black Canary.  Ewan McGregor plays crime boss Roman Sionis, a.k.a. Black Mask, while Chris Messina portrays Victor Zsasz.  The film also features Rosie Perez as Renee Montoya and Ella Jay Basco as Cassandra Cain.  Reportedly, in the film, Cain has something that Sionis wants and the costumed ladies must protect her from him.

This weekend, there was a mild uproar online when it was disclosed that Jared Leto‘s Joker would not appear, either in this movie or in James Gunn’s upcoming ‘The Suicide Squad’.  Maybe he was busy filming ‘Morbius’ for Sony?  Or maybe Warner Brothers is being cautious by limited the number of big-screen versions of one character.  With Phillips’ movie, starring Joaquin Phoenix on the horizon, maybe the studio felt it was best to keep Leto’s version tucked away for the time being.

As for ‘Birds of Prey’, Cathy Yan directed the film, with a script by Christina Hodson.  In addition to starring in it, Robbie is also an executive producer.

‘Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) is set to open on February 7, 2020.
