Antoine Fuqua’s latest action movie, ‘Infinite’, for Paramount Pictures, has found its villain in Chiwetel Ejiofor.  Ejiofor will face off against the film’s protagonist, Evan Michaels, played by Mark Wahlberg.  Wahlberg replaced Chris Evans, who signed on to star in February, but had to drop out in June due to a scheduling conflict.  (Fuqua previously directed Wahlberg in ‘The Shooter’.)  The cast also includes Dylan O’Brien, Rupert Friend, Sophie Cookson, Kae Alexander, Wallis Day, and Melissa Neal.  Icelandic actor Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson has also recently been added to the cast.

‘Infinite’ is based on D. Eric Maikranz’s novel ‘The Reincarnationist Papers’, about a secret society called the Cognomina, made up of people who can recall all of their past lives.  A schizophrenic man (Wahlberg), tormented by memories of two past lives, stumbles upon the group and decides to join them.  It turns out, he may be the key to this group’s survival, as one of their own (Ejiofor) has figured out how to stop the reincarnation process and plans to use it on them.

Ejiofor can currently be heard as the voice of Scar in ‘The Lion King’, and he will return in another Disney film later this year, in ‘Maleficent: Mistress of Evil’.  Incidentally, Ejiofor recently wrapped ‘The Old Guard’, directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood, about a team of immortal mercenaries.  The actor may also be recognized for playing Mordo in ‘Doctor Strange’, or for roles in ’12 Years a Slave’, and ‘The Martian’.

Jóhannesson’s character is named Kovic, but his role in the story is unknown.  Jóhannesson will appear in Netflix’s new series ‘Cursed’ and in Sony’s upcoming comic book movie ‘Bloodshot’ with Vin Diesel.  Jóhannesson plays the film’s villain, Nick Baris.  He has previously appeared in the films ‘Alpha’ and ‘Atomic Blonde’ and the TV shows ‘Origin’ (on Youtube) and ‘The Innocents’ (Netflix).
