Paramount is betting that they have a hit on their hands with their next tentpole film ‘Infinite’ and have cast Chris Evans (‘Avengers: Endgame’,’Fantastic Four’) in the leading role to be directed by Antoine Fuqua (‘The Magnificent Seven’,’Training Day’.) The movie is set to adapt D. Eric Maikranz’s 2009 novel ‘The Reincarnationist Papers.’ Rafi Crohn is the executive producer while John Zaozirny is producing with Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian of Di Bonaventura Pictures.
The movie is working off a script by John Lee Hancock and Ian Shorr with Hancock making the most recent revisions to the story.
In the novel, we follow Evan Michaels who is likely the character which Chris Evans will play. He is a public accountant that has memories of two prior lives which haunt him. Soon, he learns of a secret society which has existed for centuries called the Cognomina. This organization is made up of people just like him who have total recall of their past lives. Those who are members of the organizations have been agents of change throughout history, and we’ll see Evan trying to join their ranks.
It is an interesting concept and if done right could be a joy to watch unfold on the big screen. However, the ‘Assassin’s Creed’ movie tried to go a similar route in some of these aspects and could prove that audiences aren’t interested in the idea of past lives. We’ll have to wait and see if there isn’t a market for such a movie or if ‘Assassin’s Creed’ ended up failing from the curse of being a live-action video game adaptation.
