It’s been almost 20-years since ‘The Matrix’ was released and to commemorate the occasion, the film will be hitting Dolby Cinema screens at select AMC Theaters. In fact, the movie has been “restored in Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, exclusively showing in select Dolby Cinema screens this August.” I’m not going to lie, this is tempting with how amazing the first film in the trilogy was.
Here is how Dolby is billing it:
From the inspiring minds of the Wachowskis, The Matrix re-imagined our world and changed film history with its innovative cinematography and poignant story about humanity and pushing the boundaries of the mind.
The release will begin on August 30th for a limited run at over 135 Dolby Cinema AMC locations across the United States. It is also the first time that the film will be available in this format. Fans of the first film or the franchise will be in for a real treat to experience the movie in Dolby.

According to senior vice president of Dolby Laboratories’ Cinema Business Group Doug Darrow:
“Bringing The Matrix to life in Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos pays homage to the masterpiece that the Wachowskis created 20 years ago. Movie lovers will be able to see and experience unforgettable sequences like bullets flying in slow motion with the utmost detail – transforming one of the most iconic sci-fi films of this generation.”
It is hard to argue that. The story from the first film gave us an original science fiction and action piece which has been loved by a generation and a slow-motion action effect that was done to death by the time the first sequel came out.
