Wow, ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ really changes things for Peter Parker in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and director Jon Watts is opening up to how it all came together. As Marvel Studio’s Kevin Feige stressed, “everything’s different” for Peter Parker after the big reveal and Watts is drawing comparisons to another part of the MCU to get his point across.
The mid-credit scene is of course still a spoiler for those who have managed to stay off the Internet so if you’ve somehow managed to avoid it so far, we’ll give you a second to swing back before diving in.
According to Watts:
“I thought it was a nice comparison to what happened at the end of Iron Man, because for so much of Far From Home, we’re having the world ask Peter, ‘Are you going to be the next Iron Man? Are you going to step up and be the next Iron Man?’ And he makes this decision not to be the next Iron Man, but to be the first Spider-Man.
And it’s Peter Parker, and nothing ever goes according to plan. So we thought, as soon as he was starting to have things figured out, we would pull the ultimate reversal on him, which is — Tony chose to reveal himself to the world. And now this time, it’s Mysterio. And it just made sense in this movie that’s all about lies and deception that Peter’s greatest secret would get revealed.”
With ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ being the end of the “Infinity Saga” it would only make sense to reference ‘Iron Man’ with the big secret identity reveal. So, with how things play out, “Mysterio wins, essentially. And forces Peter to tell the ultimate truth to the world, which is so ironic coming from someone like Mysterio.”
Did you enjoy the big reveal to the world that Peter Parker was actually Spider-Man? Will mid-credit scene from ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ make any future films more difficult for The Wallcrawler who is now likely on the run? Share your thoughts in the comments below, True Believers!
