Steven Universe: The Movie Poster Reveals A New Menace To Beach City

Cartoon Network’s ‘Steven Universe’ is being expanded in a new made-for-TV movie.  The film was first announced last year at San Diego Comic-Con, with the first trailer arriving last month.  The show’s creator, Rebecca Sugar, will direct and is working on original music for the film with Chance the Rapper, Aimee Mann, Uzo Aduba, among others, along with other musically inclined voice cast members, Estelle (Garnet), Patti LuPone (Yellow Diamond) and newcomer Uzo Aduba.

“Steven thinks his time defending the Earth is over, but when a new threat comes to Beach City, Steven faces his biggest challenge yet.”

The film features the voice cast from the show, Zach Callison as Steven, Estelle as Garnet, Deedee Magno as Pearl, and Michaela Dietz as Amethyst, plus LuPone as Yellow Diamond, Christine Ebersole as White Diamond, Lisa Hannigan as Blue Diamond, Erica Luttrell as Sapphire, and Charlyne Yi as Ruby.  Aduba will voice Bismuth.  Mann and Chance the Rapper are also expected to provide speaking voices to undisclosed characters.

The gang will be plagued by a new villain (who is NOT Aquamarine as some speculated, following that character’s absence in later episodes), as revealed (sort of) in the film’s new poster:

Some fans are also speculating that there will be a time jump, seeing as how Steven appears older and the beach house looks like it has undergone some renovations.

It is also believed that the movie will feature Kate Micucci as Sadie Miller, Matthew Moy as Lars Barriga, Toks Olagundoye as Nanefua, Jennifer Paz as Lapis Lazuli, Shelby Rabara as Peridot, Grace Rolek as Connie Maheswaran, and Tom Scharpling as Greg Universe.

‘Steven Universe: The Movie’ will arrive on Cartoon Network in the fall, and will subsequently be released on DVD.  The soundtrack will be released physically and digitally.
