Sophia Lillis And Wyatt Oleff in I Am Not Okay With This

Two stars of ‘It’, Sophia Lillis and Wyatt Oleff have been cast in Netflix’s new drama ‘I Am Not Okay With This’, adapted from Charles Forsman’s graphic novel of the same name.  This is the second Netflix series based on one of Forsman’s works, following ‘The End of the F*****g World’.  Like that series, ‘I Am Not Okay With This’ is being adapted, executive produced and directed by Jonathan Entwistle.  ‘Stranger Things” Shawn Levy also serves as an EP.

Lillis, who plays Beverly Marsh in the ‘It’ movies, is the series’ lead, Sydney, “a teenage girl navigating the trials and tribulations of high school, all while dealing with the complexities of her family, her budding sexuality, and… mysterious superpowers just beginning to awaken from deep within her.”

Sydney is further described as:

“Though she views herself as painfully average, she is far from it, as she discovers she has telekinetic powers which may prove to be problematic.”

Oleff, who plays Stanley Uris in the ‘It’ movies, portrays Stanley Barber on ‘I Am Not Okay With This’ (two Stanleys!), who is described as “Adorably awkward but cool with it, Stanley is Sydney’s neighbor and the polar opposite of a jock. He’s ‘the geek who is not cool, only he is cool by being uncool.’ He has a slightly awkward self-confidence that is well beyond his years.”  (Dish Alert: Rumor has it, Lillis and Oleff are a couple in real life.)

The cast of ‘I Am Not Okay With This’: (L-R) Kathleen Rose Perkins, Aidan Wojtak-Hissong, Lillis, Sofia Bryant, Oleff, and Richard Ellis.

Perkins plays Sydney’s mother Maggie, “a single parent who works at the local diner to support her two kids following the death of her husband.”  Wojtak-Hissong plays Sydney’s 10-year-old brother Liam, who “radiates a kinetic sort of wonder — the kind of genuine ‘go’ at life that tends to fade after puberty. He’s a neat, artistic kid with an innocent way about him, and he adores his big sister.”

Bryant portrays Dina, Sydney’s “effervescent, happy, pretty, loud and funny, badass best friend. Unfortunately, Dina has a boyfriend — a super jock who Sydney hates — and Sydney worries he’s going to take her away.”  That boyfriend, Brad Lewis, is portrayed by Ellis.  Brad is described as “the All-American golden boy (sweet, polite, confident, popular, the coolest jock) and Dina’s boyfriend. But as Sydney sees it, he’s ‘an epic douchebag.’”

Both Lillis and Oleff are returning for ‘It: Chapter Two’ this fall.  Lillis also starred on HBO’s ‘Sharp Objects’ as the younger version of Amy Adams’ character Camille Preaker.  She starred as the famous literary girl sleuth in ‘Nancy Drew and the Case of the Hidden Staircase’, and as Gretel in next year’s horror movie ‘Gretel and Hansel’.  In addition to ‘It’, Oleff may also be recognized for playing the younger version of Chris Pratt’s Peter Quill/Star-Lord in the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ movies.

Perkins has recurred on the series ‘Episodes’ and ‘Fresh Off the Boat’.  Wojtak-Hissong co-starred on USA’s sci-fi thriller ‘Falling Water’.  Bryant has made one-off appearances on TV shows like ‘The Good Wife’ and ‘Blue Bloods’.  Ellis will appear in the upcoming reboot of ‘Veronica Mars’.

‘I Am Not Okay With This’ is now filming.  Netflix has not yet announced a release date.
