Falcon & Winter Soldier

In the aftermath of ‘Avengers: Endgame’, everyone is wondering what will become of the survivors and the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a whole.  One thing we do know is that the story is expanding beyond the record-breaking films into streaming television thanks to Disney+, with the first entry, ‘Falcon & Winter Soldier’ set to arrive in August of 2020.  Obviously, the series will star Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/The Falcon, who recently received a significant gift from a departing hero, and Sebastian Stan/Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier.  Now we have more information about the series, including what other characters from the MCU will be part of it.

‘Falcon & Winter Soldier’ will consist of six episodes.  ‘Empire’s Malcolm Spellman is writing and Kari Skogland will direct.  Skogland’s credits include episodes of AMC’s upcoming ‘NOS4A2’, as well as ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’, ‘The Punisher’, ‘The Walking Dead’, ‘The Americans’, ‘House of Cards’, and much more.

The series will also welcome back two characters from ‘Captain America: Civil War’, Helmut Zemo, portrayed by Daniel Brühl, and Emily VanCamp as Sharon Carter.  Most fans probably thought they’d seen the last of these two.  Zemo killed Black Panther’s father T’Chaka and framed the Winter Soldier in a plot to turn the Avengers against one another, after his family was killed in Sokovia during the events of ‘Age of Ultron’.  He also leaked the information to Tony Stark that the Winter Soldier had assassinated his parents.  In the end, he attempted to commit suicide but was stopped by T’Challa and turned over to Everett Ross to face the consequences of his actions.

Sharon Carter is a former (honest) S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, and the niece of Peggy Carter, who was sent to spy on Steve Rogers, but ultimately took his side and helped him, Falcon and the Winter Soldier escape from The Raft supermax prison.  She and Steve kissed (eeeeewwwwwwww!) before the men left to take on Zemo.  Apparently, she was among those dusted by Thanos’ snap, and returned thanks to the Hulk’s snap in ‘Endgame’.  I suppose that’s the only way to explain why she’s still the same age, but– Listen, Marvel.  This is getting just plain LAZY!  EVERYBODY from the movies just conveniently got dusted only to return at the same time five years later?!  Whatever.

(Just to be clear, Brühl and VanCamp are currently in TALKS to return, but things look good.)

Speaking of ‘Endgame’, although Marvel Studios wouldn’t comment, it is believed that the story will follow Sam and Bucky, after Steve Rogers’ gifting his legendary shield to Sam at the end of ‘Endgame’.

How is ‘Falcon & Winter Soldier’ shaping up in your opinion?  Are you glad to see Zemo and Sharon Carter return?
