JB Smoove's 'Spider-Man: Far From Home' Role Is Revealed

JB Smoove may have played Peter Parker (Tom Holland)’s Driver’s Ed instructor in an Audi commercial (above) as a tie-in with ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’, but he will have a bigger and different role in the sequel, ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’.  Producer Eric Carroll revealed that Smoove will play Mr. Dell, a  teacher at Midtown School of Science and Technology.  Mr. Dell chaperones Peter Parker and his classmates’ trip to Europe, but based on the trailers, obviously, that doesn’t go well.

Carroll said:

“We’re also bringing back Martin Starr as the hapless Mr. Harrington. Together [with Mr. Dell], they constitute the least-capable group of chaperones ever to be sent to Europe with a bunch of kids.  When we knew we wanted a teacher to be escorting these kids across Europe, he was our first choice. So, sure enough, now we’ve got these two as this amazing comedic pair showing these kids around Europe. Martin Starr, he’s like, ‘Okay, kids, there’s a water monster. So, maybe we’ll-‘, and then you’ve got J.B. Smoove doing the exact opposite. ‘Are you guys seeing this?!’”

Considering how poorly the trip to Washington DC went in the first film, Midtown must have been really desperate to trust Mr. Harrington to chaperone another class trip!

‘Far From Home’ reportedly takes place right after ‘Avengers: Endgame’ and will depict Peter and the world, as they grapple with the death of Iron Man and the possible dissolution of the Avengers.  Things get complicated in Europe, when Peter runs afoul of new elemental threats Hydro-Man and the Molten Man.  And then there is the arrival of the enigmatic Mysterio to complicate things.

‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’, directed by Jon Watts, stars Tom Holland, Jake Gyllenhaal, Jacob Batalon, Remy Hii, Tony Revolori, Angourie Rice, Martin Starr, and Zendaya, with Jon Favreau, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, and Marisa Tomei.  It opens on July 2, 2019.
