To celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Marvel Universe, creators Mark Waid, Javier Rodriguez, and Alvaro Lopez are crafting something special. They’re set to deliver a six-part mini-series titled ‘History of the Marvel Universe.’ The title was initially revealed in March, but now Wait is giving new details about the book.

This isn’t going to be just another guidebook to the Marvel Universe but a new tale that spans everything “from the Big Bang to the twilight of existence.” Not only that, but they are planning on covering “every significant event [and] every fan’s favorite Marvel stories.”

This goal being ambitious is an understatement.

As to what they have in mind, Waid has shared:

“We’ve seen Marvel histories and Marvel encyclopedias and Marvel handbooks, and I love that stuff. I absorb them like Galactus absorbs planets. This is not that. There’s information here, but there’s also a story. The Marvel Universe is a living thing, it is its own story, and we’re trying to approach it with some degree of heart to find the heart in that story, so it doesn’t read like 120 pages of Wikipedia.”

It is an exciting approach to give not only a new tale but catches up newer readers who don’t have years of their life and a pile of money dedicated to re-reading every comic out there or, as Waid suggested, reading over “120 pages of Wikipedia.”

The Marvel Universe may have been rebuilt and had massive changes through time travel stories and alternate universes but the core world we follow is the 616 Universe, and this is where the focus of this new story will be.
