Sylvia De Fanti is the newest cast member to join Netflix’s upcoming series adaptation ‘Warrior Nun’. The series was created and will be executive produced by Simon Barry, based on the American manga by Ben Dunn. Barry is also the showrunner. De Fanti joins the previously announced regular cast of Alba Baptista, with Toya Turner, Tristán Ulloa, Thekla Reuten, Kristina Tonteri-Young, Lorena Andrea, and Emilio Sakraya.
‘Warrior Nun’ revolves around Ava, a 19-year-old woman who wakes up in a morgue with a new lease on life and a divine artifact embedded in her back. She discovers she is now part of an ancient order that has been tasked with fighting demons on Earth, and powerful forces representing both heaven and hell want to find and control her.
Baptista top lines as Ava. De Fanti will portray Mother Superior, who is “responsible for training the Warrior Nuns, and while she might not give the orders, she’s the one who really runs the place. Having witnessed horrors as a child, she’s burdened with the guilt of the things she did and didn’t do while just trying to survive.”
De Fanti, who is multi-lingual, most recently starred on the long-running Italian series ‘Don Matteo’. Prior to that, she appeared on the Italian-British series ‘Medici: Masters of Florence’ and starred on the series ‘Boris’.
‘Warrior Nun’ features: Turner as Shotgun Mary, a nun with a chip on her shoulder; Ulloa as Father Vincent, the spiritual and strategic leader of the Order of the Cruciform Sword; Reuten as tech CEO Jillian Salvius; Tonteri-Young as Sister Beatrice, “a woman with a quiet Zen strength”; Andrea as Sister Lilith, is a “legacy Nun” born into an elite family; and Sakraya as JC, “the charismatic leader of a group of alluring petty criminals.”
At this time, it is unknown when production will begin, or when the show will be available to stream.
