It looks as though the ‘Starship Troopers’ TV series is inching closer to reality with original screenwriter Ed Neumeier, star Casper Van Dien, and possibly Jake Busey. Though he didn’t offer any secrets, Busey recently spoke to HN Entertainment and revealed that he has discussed the show with Van Dien, and offered his take, although this may not be the actual concept that Neumeier has in mind.
Busey stated:
“I still train with Casper [Van Dien], we still work out together and if you look at my Instagram you can us working out at the gym.
“Casper has told me about conversations he’s had with Ed. So yes, I will corroborate that, yes. [Ed] and Casper have been talking about a series and they’ve both expressed to me that this time they really want me to be part of it, so I think Casper and I would be older men in the battle, in the war room, in the planning room or at the helm of a destroyer but not necessarily boots on the ground.
“We’re old guys now if you’re 45 years old you’re not going to be running around doing the boot camp thing. But yeah, a TV series would be great. “

Paul Verhoeven’s ‘Starship Troopers’, based on the book by Robert A. Heinlein, opened in 1997 but was a bomb that was trashed by critics. But it was an odd film and in the years since, opinion has improved because– and I don’t know how else to put this– it’s like… supposed to be terrible. In 2017, Slant Magazine named it the #2 Best Movie of 1997, ahead of ‘Boogie Nights’ and Tarantino’s ‘Jackie Brown’. In 2012, it was selected as #20 on Slant’s list of the 100 Best Movies of the 1990s.
Busey is currently filming another TV series ‘L.A.’s Finest’ starring Jessica Alba and Gabrielle Union, which premieres on the Spectrum cable service in May. After that, he will be seen in Netflix’s ‘Stranger Things 3’ as Bruce, a reporter with questionable morals. Last year, he appeared in ‘The Predator’, and on ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ and ‘NCIS’.
Along with Busey and Van Dien, the original ‘Starship Troopers’ starred Denise Richards, Neil Patrick Harris, and Dina Meyer.
