Z-Nation Prequel Black Summer

Syfy may have cancelled ‘Z Nation‘ after five seasons but the franchise will be living on in Netflix’s prequel series ‘Black Summer.’ Fans are still hoping that the original show might be brought back to life on the streaming network but for now the trailer for ‘Black Summer’ should thrill anyone who enjoyed the original!

The series is being described as:

Set in the dark, early days of a zombie apocalypse, BLACK SUMMER stars Jaime King as Rose, a mother torn from her daughter who embarks upon a harrowing journey to find her. Thrust alongside a small group of American refugees, these complete strangers must find the strength they need to fight their way back to loved ones. But in order for Rose and her team to brave this hostile new world, they will need to make brutal decisions to contend with zombies – and each other. Season 1 of Black Summer premieres April 11 on Netflix!

The plot feels a little inspired by ‘Fear the Walking Dead’ as we see a woman doing anything to protect her child as a zombie outbreak occurs. Outside of that, you’ll quickly notice that the tone for the show feels quite different!

I’m loving the feel of the new series and can’t wait to see what elements might crossover from the original show. Thankfully, as this isn’t a Marvel TV show, it likely won’t be canceled after only a couple of seasons even if it will likely already have a built-in fanbase. It almost feels like Netflix is becoming the new Syfy for canceled shows.
