Spoilers for season 6 of Marvel’s ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ lie ahead! Read at your own risk!
The trailer for the sixth season of ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ has revealed that the Agent Coulson who walked off into the sunset to die in season 5 is, in all actuality, dead. But, there is a new character who is using the body of Coulson.
Coulson actor Clark Gregg spoke about this confusing turn of events in a recent interview, saying:
It is unclear whether this new character is an alien, a shape-shifting superhero, or something else. One thing is clear though, that Gregg thinks it is “very strange, very strange” to return to ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’ to play a role that is not the Coulson we once knew. Gregg said:
“The Coulson role and persona, though always evolving and always having new parts of him revealed to me by our writers, became a very familiar skin. And to change all that and find myself playing another very mysterious person who is not Phil Coulson and the mystery of who that person is and why he looks like that is something that they’ve done groundbreaking, wild stuff with that I’m really lucky to play.”
One thing we do know, thanks to the trailer, is that this new character has never heard of S.H.I.E.L.D., so that should be fun!
A final premiere date of ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ season 6 has not been announced, but the show will return to ABC this summer. Check out the video with Gregg’s entire interview below!
