Lana Condor‘s Jubilee got the short end of the stick in ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’.  The one scene of her using her powers got cut, and instead of joining Scott, Jean, and Kurt on their mission to save the X-Men, she was knocked unconscious, and missed out on all the action. There were hopes that her role would be expanded in the next movie, ‘Dark Phoenix’, but instead, Condor and her mallrat character are nowhere to be seen.

If fans want to see Condor kicking butt in a different comic book adaptation, she will be starring on Syfy’s new program ‘Deadly Class’ based on Rick Remender and Wes Craig’s Image series.  On it, Condor plays the female lead, Saya Kuroki, a stealthy martial arts expert, who recruits the main character Marcus (Benjamin Wadsworth) to attend Kings Dominion, a school for future killers and crime bosses.

In an interview with Collider, Condor reminisced about appearing in ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’, expressed a desire to play the character again but explained why she isn’t in ‘Dark Phoenix’.

“I know! It definitely feels amazing. It’s funny because I, of course, love X-Men forever. X-Men was such an incredible experience because I had never worked before, I was so excited to be there. I love Jubilee and I hope that in the future she’ll get her due, but I think with Deadly Class, there’s so much more involvement. You know I love comics and working things that have pre-existing source material, so Deadly Class was a completely different experiences in many ways – but also one of the hugest ways is that I have more to do [Laughs]… No, I didn’t end up doing Dark Phoenix ‘cause I was doing To All the Boys.”

Smart move!  While Jubilee was barely more than a cameo in ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’, Condor really broke out starring as Laura Jean, the lead in the Netflix romantic teen comedy ‘To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before’ based on the novel by Jenny Han.  The film received nearly universal positive reviews and turned Condor into one of the fastest-rising young stars in Hollywood.  There is already a sequel in the works.

Despite Condor’s willingness to play Jubilee again, that ship has probably sailed, as ‘Dark Phoenix’ will likely be the last ‘X-Men’ movie before Disney and Marvel Studios assume control of the brand and reboot it.

Will you miss seeing Condor as Jubilee in ‘Dark Phoenix’?
