At the Paley Center recently, the cast of ‘Gotham’ assembled to watch the premiere screening of the first episode of the final season, titled ‘Year Zero,’ and share their thoughts with the media about the series and the final season in general, with the press, of course, hoping to get any spoilers they could for the final season. Not much came out, but here is what Syfy is reporting so far.
Apparently, Oswald Cobblepot is going to get a dog this season, which he is going to name “Edward” (fittingly enough), who apparently will give The Penguin the loyalty that he could never receive from Edward Nygma. Also learned was that there will be a major death this season, which will help propel the series forward through its second half, though there have been no hints as to who might go, or how real the death will be since almost every cast member is a known Batman character who is seemingly alive when Bruce Wayne/ Batman is in his prime years later.
They also teased the fact that in the comics Barbara and Jim have a child, and asked the actors whether that might still happen in the series, to which Erin Richards (Barbara) admitted in an interview that “we’re definitely moving towards a situation” but later in the question and answer portion she and Ben McKenzie stated that mistakes will be made between the two of them, hinting that a rift may occur that will prevent them from getting together again.
From reports, it was clear that the cast and crew from the series were a tight-knit group, overcoming much adversity, from very-high audience expectations to lack of viewership at many times during the show’s run, odd studio demands (such as not being able to use the word “Joker”) to trying to live up to the ‘Batman’ legacy while telling their own story; they struggled mightily and from my point of view, did alright for themselves. One strength the show always had was a gifted cast, who all seemed to really enjoy their scenes together, so much so that it often seemed like a treat when the writers were finally able to get certain characters into a room together after many episodes apart.
When asked at the event who he would have enjoyed having more scenes with, star Robin Lord Taylor (Oswald Cobblepot) immediately answered Sean Pertwee (Alfred Pennyworth), stating:
“He’s one of my best friends. It’s like we couldn’t be from more different places, and then you find each other in this weird circumstance. Yeah. So he’s the one.”
Will you be tuning in for the final Season of ‘Gotham?’ Have you been keeping up with the series since the beginning? Or did you not enjoy FOX’s take on the origin of Batman? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below!
