Well, Netflix has finally given the fans a teaser trailer and a release date for ‘The Punisher’ Season 2, but as many fans are saying online, its about two weeks too late, and really, its hard to get that excited when you know the show is most likely going to be cancelled about a week or two after this premiere date (given what has been happening to all the other Marvel/ Netflix series). Still, we now know ‘The Punisher’ Season 2 will premiere on January 18th, 2019, and you can check out the Teaser, featuring Frank burning his pardon from Homeland Security which he received at the end of Season 1, below:

The idea of Frank burning that pardon in the teaser raises a lot of questions, especially in regards to the theme of Season 2, and where Frank goes now that he has finally avenged his family. According to an interview showrunner Steve Lightfoot had with Collider:

“If you ask, ‘What is the theme of Season 2?’ It’s about Frank really adopting the mantle of The Punisher.”

Of course, not everyone involved thought it would even get to this point. Star Steven R. Moore was surprised to see the show get the second season with the amount of gun violence it has:

“I thought it was a wrap. Because trailers had come out that’s like, dude, it’s a gun shooting a lady in the head. That’s what you see. I’m very sensitive to the political climate. So I was just like, ‘I gotta’ start looking for a job.’”

And gun violence apparently is not the only politics in Season 2, as the man playing villain John Pilgrim describes his character as having alt-right leanings:

“On the exterior, [John Pilgrim] is a man who is a Christian Fundamentalist who had a rage, a violent side of him. It’s buried deep. I think where this is all headed, that sort of side of him is going to resurface a bit.”

Luckily, Pilgrim isn’t the only villain this season, as Ben Barnes will also be returning as Billy Russo, aka Jigsaw, and he described his character recently while speaking to Collider:

“He’s trying to piece together what happened to him and who he is. There is the metaphor at one point that his brain is the jigsaw that he’s trying put the pieces back together of.”

Now don’t get me wrong, I am excited for ‘The Punisher’ Season 2, and will be recapping it when it premieres, but I am very disheartened with all these shows getting cancelled, and hate giving Netflix any kind of viewership for these Marvel shows at this point, since they clearly care very little about promoting them now that their partnership with Marvel is coming to a close.

Regardless, are you excited to see where Frank goes in Season 2? Do you think the series will get any kind of closure since it is unlikely to get a Season 3? Share your thoughts below!
