The MCU Will Have A New Home On Disney+

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is here to stay. With movies slated until 2020 and no slim picking of TV series, it would seem that our favorite Marvel characters will always find a home somewhere.

The newest home for the MCU will be on Disney’s new streaming service, Disney+, which is set to debut in 2019. Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige gave a recent interview where he described Disney+ as “another exciting avenue” for the MCU. Feige said:

“When we announced ten movies and people asked ‘Well what about these other things?’ the previous stance would be ‘We only have a certain number of slots to make movies per year.’ That’s still true but we have another outlet that I think will be very unique and very special.”

He continued, saying:

“We are going to tell stories for the streaming service that we wouldn’t be able to tell in a theatrical experience — a longer-form narrative, that’s what comics are, it’s about as longform a narrative as exists. But also maintaining that theatrical experience, which is our bread and butter, and the lines around the block, if you’re lucky.”

While most of the plans are being kept under wraps, we do know that Tom Hiddleston‘s mischief maker character Loki will have his own series. The rumor mill is also turning about a Scarlet Witch show with Elizabeth Olsen, and possibly Paul Bettany as Vision. Furthermore, plans for both a Falcon and Winter Soldier show with Sebastian Stan and Anthony Mackie have been whispered about!

There is always the question about what will happen with the Marvel Netflix shows that have been cancelled. ‘Daredevil,’ ‘Luke Cage’ and ‘Iron Fist’ have all been removed from Netflix, and their future seemed to be in limbo, as it was assumed that these shows couldn’t just switch to Disney+ for contractual reasons. However, Kevin Mayer, the newly-appointed head of Disney+, released a statement about the lost shows, saying:

“They are very high-quality shows. We haven’t yet discussed that, but I would say that’s a possibility.”
