While a sequel to ‘Bumblebee‘ will likely rely fully on box office sales and whatever direction Paramount wants to take the “Transformers” franchise going forward, if it does happen director Travis Knight already has an idea for it. With only $21.6 million stateside on its opening weekend with another $31 million from overseas sales, it is still falling far short of the reported $135 million production budget.
If things pick up, there is a chance that a follow up will happen and if so, Knight shares that he’d want to cover the time period between the end of ‘Bumblebee’ and the first ‘Transformers’ film:
“I think it certainly could be. I mean, when I get to the end of one of my movies, I always imagine what’s next for the characters. And so, in my mind, I’ve got all these scenarios and adventures that play out, both with Charlie and with Bee and everyone else. We’ll see if the world wants more. Maybe we’ll explore some of those things.
I mean, it wasn’t left too clear as to how he ended up for sale at the beginning of ‘Transformers’ with how things were left off. For those who have seen the movie, you do learn that Hailee Steinfeld’s Charlie is the one who not only fixed Bee’s radio but taught him to use songs to communicate so some groundwork has been laid out for what is to come, but there is still plenty of stories to tell.
On the flipside, they could always head over to Cybertron to show off the war which Optimus Prime is fighting against The Decepticons.
