TBS is set to unveil a new workplace comedy like no other, starting with the fact that this workplace happens to be Heaven. On ‘Miracle Workers’, a six-part limited series, Steve Buscemi plays God, as a creator who is weary of Earth and its inhabitants and plans to retire. “Earth is in big trouble,” Buscemi’s God says, “It’s a mess.” Daniel Radcliffe costars as a low-level angel named Craig who works in the department of answering prayers. Perhaps now that he has a new coworker, Eliza, played by Geraldine Viswanathan, he might be able to handle even more… like six! ‘Miracle Workers’ also stars Karan Soni as God’s assistant, Sanjay.
‘Miracle Workers’ is based on Simon Rich’s novel ‘What In God’s Name?’ in which he re-imagined Heaven as Heaven Inc., a corporation that is seemingly facing hard times as its head, God, has become disinterested in managing the minutiae of Earth and plans to do away with it. In order to save humanity, Craig and Eliza must help two mortals fall in love.
Here is the latest trailer to give you an idea of what to expect:
The series hails from Broadway Video, the home of ‘Saturday Night Live’. (Rich is a former writer for that series.) ‘SNL’ mastermind Lorne Michaels is executive producing along with Andrew Singer, Rich, Radcliffe and Buscemi. Rich previously created the Emmy-nominated comedy ‘Man Seeking Woman’, based on another book of his ;The Last Girlfriend on Earth’ which aired on FXX for three seasons.
The cast also features Lolly Adefope, Tituss Burgess, Margaret Cho, Angela Kinsey, Tim Meadows, Chris Parnell, and John Reynolds.
“Based on Simon Rich’s book, What in God’s Name, this seven-episode limited series turns the perception of heaven on its head while also making the case that humans are worth saving.”
‘Miracle Workers’ premieres on TBS on February 12, 2019.
