Stephen Schiff may have hit it big with the critically acclaimed ‘The Americans,’ but Lucasfilm is now set to bring him into a galaxy far, far away. Few franchises can be thought of as being bigger than “Star Wars,” and Schiff is now set to be the showrunner of the Disney+ prequel series to ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.’ Not much is known about the show at this time outside of the fact that we’ll see Diego Luna reprising his role as Cassian Andor and that the series will show how his past shaped him into the rebel that helped deliver the plans of the first Death Star to the alliance.
Schiff will be working off a pilot script and the series bible which was penned by Jared Bush (‘Moana’). Of course, as this is a family friendly streaming service, it is hard to say precisely how dark this new series could end up. We also know that writers are being hired and that production is planned to begin in 2019.
The new showrunner has a penchant on helping deliver twists and turns as we’ve seen in the last five years of ‘The Americans’ and being able to continue to work with spies makes him an excellent fit for where to take these stories.
Much like Jon Favreau‘s ‘The Mandalorian‘, this new series will explore stories about the galaxy which have only been hinted at in the films and novelizations.
Are you excited to see what Stephen Schiff can do with the ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ prequel for Disney+? Do you feel that his experiences on ‘The Americans’ will be able to give us a non-stop thriller set in the “Star Wars” universe? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
