We all know that the reveal of Darth Vader as Luke Skywalker‘s father was one of the biggest twists in the “Star Wars” franchise and cinema in general. However, Mark Hamill has recently revealed that he pitched another twist to George Lucas that would have been even crazier and more out of left field. The pitch came after the rise in popularity of Boba Fett where Hamill tried to sell Lucas on the idea that the bounty hunter should end up being Luke’s real mother. This was, of course, far before the prequel trilogy was thought up which turned the entire male side of the Skywalker family into a bunch of emotionally stunted angst-filled teenagers.
Like father like son indeed was proven true here by Lucas, but it is hard to imagine what a bounty hunter that no one knew much about could have fit into the equation if he had become a she and Luke’s mother.
The initial idea came forth from “Tatooine Sons: A Star Wars Podcast”:
While we recorded this coming eeeks episode, one of the boys said that between V & VI there was a theory that Boba Fett was actually Luke’s mother. Crazier though, is that one of the hosts claims that @HamillHimself was all in on this! This can’t be true?!?!! pic.twitter.com/xdDSjjh24k

While that would have been thought of as out of left field and completely crazy, it looks like Hamill has now confirmed the theory:
I once suggested it to George as the only way we could top Vader being my father. I envisioned her as a double-agent working clandestinely for the Rebels. SPOILER ALERT: He didn’t like my idea.

It sounds like fans aren’t the only ones who have “Star Wars” theories brewing in their brains. It isn’t clear how or when this would have been revealed or what direction the story could have gone if the pitch had been accepted. Either way, this is a twist that fans would likely have been both praising and complaining about for years to come had it ended up happening.
Are you glad that Boba Fett didn’t end up as Luke Skywalker’s mother? Or, do you love the randomness of Mark Hamill’s pitch and wish that had somehow been written into the story?
