Look away, look away! The third and final season of ‘Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events’ will hit Netflix on January 1, 2019. The live-action adaptation of the popular young adult novels by Daniel Handler stars Neil Patrick Harris as evil con man Count Olaf and has been unfolding on the streaming service since 2017, but now it seems they saved the worst for last!
In a teaser for the upcoming season, narrator Lemony Snicket (Patrick Warburton) offers this ominous voiceover:
“All will be revealed. The fate of the Baudelaire heirs and the truth behind the letters VFD.”
The showrunner for ‘A Series of Unfortunate Events,’ Barry Sonnenfeld recently spoke about the final season, saying it will be “the most emotional season yet.” Sonnenfeld said:
“It’s got a lot of action, and the kids have become much more proactive and less victims.”
The Baudelaire orphans played be Malina Weissman, Louis Hynes, and Presley Smith have spent the series trying to uncover the truth of their parents’ deaths, as well as the secret of the missing sugar bowl and the mysterious organization that is ever-present in their lives. It sounds like this season will finally bring about the answers they have been looking for!
Season 3 will include the final books in the series, ‘The Slippery Slope,’ ‘The Grim Grotto,’ ‘The Penultimate Peril,’ and ‘The End.’ Sonnenfeld promises to keep the open-ended nature of the books in mind while creating the season, saying:
“When you see ‘The End’, you’ll think that it’s what Daniel always had in mind, though it’s not. It wraps up in such a strong way that you may think we came up with the idea at the beginning of the first season.”
