Boba Fett

It was recently revealed that Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy has shared that ‘Boba Fett: A Star Wars Story’ was canceled in order for the production company to focus on ‘The Mandalorian’ series instead and now details of the film are coming to light. The movie was originally set to have Josh Trank direct the film, but he was ousted in 2015 with James Mangold set to take his place. Even the director of ‘Logan’ couldn’t seem to keep the project going as now it all appears to be over.

The plot of the film “would have focused on Fett and the menagerie of bounty hunters who appeared alongside him on the deck of a Star Destroyer in The Empire Strikes Back.”

That is the characters in the above image which from left to right are: Dengar, IG-88, Boba Fett, Bossk, and 4-Lom. Zuckuss would also have been included who wasn’t pictured above.

There are no details as to what caper they would have been up to in this prequel or how it would have played out, but we do have some aspects of who these characters had been fleshed out to be. It should be noted that while histories and descriptions of these bounty hunters exist, they are all from The Extended Universe and are now considered “Legends” so could have been drastically changed for this film.

Here’s what we know was once true about these characters, thanks to Wikipedia:

“A Corellian bounty hunter operating since the early stages of the Clone Wars. Dengar participated in an operation on Quarzite—during which he served as a member of a syndicate of hunters including Boba Fett, Bossk, and Asajj Ventress—to secure property valuable to Lord Otua Blank of the planet Quarzite.”

“A rogue, deadly masculine IG-series assassin droid manufactured by Holowan Laboratories who worked as a bounty hunter. Following the Battle of Hoth, he and several other bounty hunters were summoned by Darth Vader to the Executor and hired to track down the Millennium Falcon and her Rebel crew. Unable to track his quarry, IG-88 trailed his chief rival, Boba Fett, to Bespin, where the bounty hunter destroyed the assassin droid. However, IG-88 managed to survive the defeat, and he later worked with mercenary Bazine Netal.

Boba Fett:

If you don’t know who Boba Fett is, do you even know “Star Wars”?

“A male Trandoshan bounty hunter and the son of Cradossk who was known for hunting Wookiees. During the Clone Wars, Bossk worked alongside fellow hunters Aurra Sing and Castas to mentor the orphaned Boba Fett. Their scheme to kill Fett’s hated enemy Mace Windu resulted in Fett and Bossk’s arrest. After a stint in prison, Bossk worked in Fett’s syndicate of bounty hunters, taking jobs for clients including Otua Blank and Asajj Ventress.”

“Ambitious LOM-series protocol droid who overrode his programming and became a galactic thief and later a bounty hunter. He often worked together with Gand findsman Zuckuss.”

“Insectoid male Gand findsman who worked as a bounty hunter prior to and during the Galactic Civil War. A skilled tracker who often worked with 4-LOM, Zuckuss had a run-in with Han Solo that left his ship, the Mist Hunter, powered down on a strange planet. He was later among the hunters assembled by Darth Vader to find the Millennium Falcon following the Battle of Hoth.”

I really wish this was a story that had been fleshed out a bit more as it could have been a fun piece to see. I’d love to have it explained how willing the Empire was to have an assassin droid around when so many had been locked down over the years as has been indicated by the rebellion in ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ and even in multiple instances in the ongoing “Star Wars: Doctor Aphra” comics.

Do you think a film about these bounty hunters would have gotten you into theaters for another “A Star Wars Story” film? Could we still see a Boba Fett movie happen down the line? Which of these bounty hunters outside of Fett would you have liked to know more of? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
