Last week, Chris Evans saddened Marvel’s fandom when he took to Twitter to say goodbye to his time playing Captain America. Evans had been up front for some time now in disclosing that he was almost done with the Marvel Cinematic Universe and was looking forward to new endeavors. Now, upon completing reshoots for next year’s ‘Avengers 4’, Evans is officially free and is moving on.
Although their onscreen relationship was antagonistic at times, perhaps the one actor/character that Evans had the most interaction with was Robert Downey Jr.‘s Iron Man, the foundation of the Marvel Cinematic Universe — and the one figure that most assumed would be the first to depart.
It looks as though Cap will always have a friend in Tony, to ‘Infinity War’ and Beyond, as Downey shared this message on Twitter.

Downey shared an image on Twitter, with recolored versions of Buzz Lightyear and Woody from ‘Toy Story’ with Buzz taking on the Iron Man role, and Woody as Cap, with the caption “We all know who the real sheriff in town is.”
In fact, in ‘Infinity War’, even after the epic clash of ideals in ‘Captain America: Civil War’, when things really went to hell, Tony Stark revealed that he still had an old flip phone that he could use to find Steve Rogers who had gone into hiding. This proved that even after such a bitter face-off, there was still deep love and respect for these two leaders.
Downey’s original contract expired a few years ago, but so far, he has continued to come back for subsequent films and hasn’t yet expressed that he is leaving, although fans are waiting for that armored boot to drop.
Fans can look forward to Evans’ swan song as Steve Rogers in ‘Avengers 4’ which arrives in theaters on May 3, 2019.
