Kevin Feige

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has accomplished what no other producer in Hollywood has.  The Marvel Cinematic Universe is an unprecedented juggernaut, with three new movies a year, all woven together and all major financial and critical hits.  So far, these comic book movies have raked in an astounding $17.6 billion globally and they show no signs of slowing down as it seems nearly every release is bigger than the last.  And unlike some franchises which make a lot of money but are largely considered to actually be bad movies (looking at you, ‘Transformers’), critics and viewers tend to agree that the Marvel films actually deserve their success.  It’s because of this, that Feige is being honored by the Producers Guild of America with the 2019 David O. Selznick Achievement Award.

According to the PGA’s press release:

“As President of Marvel Studios since 2007 and producer of each of its 20 genre-spanning films to date, Feige is widely credited with creating the unprecedented and ever-expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe.  His forward-thinking approach to production, diverse casting and globally resonant storylines make him one of the most exciting and relevant filmmakers of our time.”

The presidents of the PGA, Gail Berman and Lucy Fisher further added:

“Kevin Feige set for himself one of the most ambitious tasks ever attempted in cinematic storytelling, and then over-delivered on it.  What Kevin has accomplished with Marvel Studios is one of the great success stories of this generation. And now, with ‘Black Panther’ and the upcoming ‘Captain Marvel,’ Kevin has broadened our entire industry’s expectations for what tentpole movies look like — in front of the camera, behind the camera and in the audience.  We’re honored that he’s accepted the PGA’s David O. Selznick Award.”

Feige joins past recipients including Jerry Bruckheimer, Clint Eastwood, Brian Grazer, Charles Roven, Steven Spielberg and Laura Ziskin.

In response, Feige said:

“To join so many of my heroes and mentors in receiving the David O. Selznick Award is one of the most meaningful experiences of my career, and I’m truly thankful to my colleagues in the Producers Guild of America for this recognition.  I want to also thank my Marvel Studios family, who have been with me every step of the way and without whom I would never have had this amazing journey.”

Feige will be presented with the David O. Selznick Award at the 30th annual Producers Guild Awards, which will be held on January 19, 2019.

Feige’s next film is ‘Captain Marvel’, due out on March 8, 2019.  That will be followed by ‘Avengers 4’ on May 3.  ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ arrives on July 5.
