John Barrowman DC Daily

Among the offerings on the DC Universe streaming service will be a daily news series, ‘DC Daily’ which will deliver to subscribers “entertaining news and insights, exclusive guest appearances, interviews and panel discussions with some of the most knowledgeable voices in the DC universe.”  ‘DC Daily’ replaces the Youtube series ‘DC All Access’.  While subscribers to DC Universe will get exclusive access to the entire show, certain segments, mainly the Headlines, will be available via Youtube and possibly other outlets.

Filmmaker Kevin Smith helped reveal a behind-the-scenes look at ‘DC Daily’ and DC Universe as a whole, and it was revealed that ‘DC Daily’ will feature various co-hosts and it was announced that John Barrowman, Sam Humphries, Samm Levine, and Harley Quinn Smith are among them.

John Barrowman John Barrowman is the best known among these.  The Scottish-American actor is one of the most gracious stars when it comes to sharing the love with fans and is always a hit at fan conventions.  Barrowman gained notice as immortal, bisexual monster fighter Captain Jack Harkness on ‘Doctor Who’ and on the spin-off series ‘Torchwood’.  He reached an even wider audience when he took on the role of the nefarious Malcolm Merlyn on ‘Arrow’ and later on other of The CW’s Arrowverse series.  He also wrote the ‘Dark Archer’ comic book for DC which was a tie-in to ‘Arrow’.

Sam Humpries is a comic book writer, who spent many years writing for Marvel on many titles including ‘Uncanny X-Force’ and ‘Planet Hulk’, but most of his work for that publisher dealt with the character Star-Lord, including his solo series and the ‘Star-Lord and Kitty Pryde’ series.

For DC, he penned 32 issues of the series ‘Green Lanterns’, plus runs of ‘Nightwing’ and ‘Harley Quinn’ and various titles under DC’s ‘Loony Tunes’ line.

Samm Levine starred on the early Judd Apatow/Paul Feig series ‘Freaks and Geeks’ which also helped launch the careers of Linda Cardellini, James Franco, Seth Rogan and Jason Segel.  He later appeared on the follow up series ‘Undeclared’.  From there he went on to make countless appearances on a wide variety of TV shows and movies.  He provided a voice in the first ‘Wet Hot American Summer’ movie and also appeared on the Netflix spin-off shows.  He has also been seen in ‘Not Another Teen Movie’ and Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Inglorious Basterds’.  His latest project, ‘Rob Riggle’s Ski Master Academy’ just launched on Crackle.

And finally, a bit of nerd royalty.  Harley Quinn Smith is the daughter of Kevin Smith and has, since she was a baby, appeared in his movies, starting with ‘Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back’ in which she portrayed Baby Silent Bob.

She co-hosted the ‘DC Daily’ live stream with her father, giving fans an idea of what to expect when the DC Universe service launches.  She acted in an episode of ‘Supergirl’ that Kevin directed and has had roles in the movies ‘Yoga Hosers’, ‘Holidays’ and ‘All These Small Moments’ as well as the Hulu series ‘All Night’.

Tiffany Smith will serve as the news anchor of the series and additional co-hosts include Hector Navarro, Clarke Wolfe, Brian Tong, Markeia McCarty, and John Kourounis.

DC Universe is available to pre-order before it launches on September 15th.  The price is $74.99/year or $7.99/month.
